We are pleased to announce that Dr. Joshua Hirsch has been honored with a Top Abstract Award at the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) 2026 Annual Meeting for his presentation of Phase 1b data from Persica’s groundbreaking Modic Trial.
Dr. Hirsch is a distinguished neurointerventionalist and Professor at Harvard Medical School. He serves as a Board Member of ASIPP and as a medical advisor to Persica, bringing extensive expertise in interventional pain management to our research efforts.
During his presentation, Dr. Hirsch discussed the evolving scientific understanding of Modic changes and their relationship to chronic Low Back Pain. His talk explored the basis of smoldering infection in the spine and highlighted the potential for disease-modifying treatments that address the underlying cause of chronic Low Back Pain, rather than merely managing symptoms.
The Phase 1b Modic Trial data, recently published in The Lancet’s eClinicalMedicine, demonstrates encouraging outcomes for patients suffering from chronic Low Back Pain (cLBP) with Modic type 1 changes. PP353, a targeted, non-opioid therapeutic approach, showed clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in both pain reduction and disability measures.
